This painting of the view from Fairview Avenue in Seattle as it brushes up against Lake Union is from about 1990, and the limited print issued then has sold out.  The image was lost to me for a couple decades as I had lost the original transparency.  Cleaning up for my brother and sister-in-laws’ visit in 2018 however turned up a slide and this is a remastered print from that.

I treasure some of the conversations I had with customers at my booth when the large limited edition print used to be displayed prominently at the store. One guy told me that the Dorothea, one of the boats in the picture, was requisitioned for use in the US Navy during WWII and that he had served on it(!)  Another had worked on the Florence Anderson, I think, out of Ketchikan in the 50’s, I forget the details. But I loved these conversations and I was sure glad I didn’t change any of the names of the boats in the painting!

Time of course is passing this painting by.  I haven’t been down to that location, but I suspect the line of Cormorants and the two winter-plumage Horned Grebes are no longer likely at the SE corner of Lake Union. I am delighted now that this image is back in the lineup.
