#431 Nighthawk (12 x 16)
$16.00
12 x 16 signed poster, foamcore-backed and bagged, “Nighthawk!”   Poster can be matted so as to make the type disappear if one so desires. This 2011 painting has a Nighthawk foraging for large flying insects at night in an urban setting.  Nighthawks have been often found in urban settings where they have traditionally found safety for their families in rooftop nest-sites.  A cafe at the bottom right of the painting is a knock-off, as good as I could do, of Edward Hopper’s iconic American painting “Nighthawks.”   Hopper painted this painting during World War II, and there was a grim optimistic determination in it.  With Nighthawk populations plummeting across the country, (possibly due to the massive influx of Crows into urban areas, though there are many possible and contributing factors including land-use and pesticides) there is a grim optimism in this poster as well that this country can gather its moral strength to make sure the Nighthawk survives.
