#44 Planning a Rollover? (Bald Eagle)

When people tell me about feeling sorry for Bald Eagles that are being mobbed by gulls or crows I tell them to hold the sympathy. Not only do Bald Eagles routinely prey on both species (individual Bald Eagles have various habits and specialties when it comes to hunting & foraging) but they sometimes use mobbing to their advantage. The Eagle will wait till a Gull or Crow comes a little too close and then suddenly perform a mid-air roll and throw their talons upward. Even a mile away an Eagle doing a Rollover can be a sobering sight–these birds are playing for keeps. In the background is Clinton, WA on Whidbey Island.
