In one of Ed’s favorites of his own paintings, three Common Mergansers wing their way over Lake Washington, (curiously devoid of buildings on the shore) with Mt. Rainier picking up the evening light in the background.  It is spring and all the birds are in their finest plumage, one male and two females.  Common Mergansers have been called the fastest fliers among the ducks, and reputedly can fly over 70 mph.
