Advice from a Progressive Conservative
Don’t go along with the propaganda-word “undocumented”
People being held in American concentration camps that don’t allow Congresspeople in to check on conditions. Citizens and Immigrants murdered on the street by masked government agents. Children separated from their families. And yet a significant percentage of Americans still think the deportation campaign is a good thing.
What gives?
One thing wrong is unforced errors being made on the left/liberal side of the great American debate and one mistake I’m going to zero in on is letting the word “undocumented” be used to describe people.
Now, youall may not have ten minutes to listen to me yakkiing about this so let me try to quickly summarize what I’m going to say in this move:
“Undocumented” is a lie. Using it or not objecting when others use it is helping the deportation campaign. “Undocumented” cherrypicks the single fact that these people broke a law to get here. But I’m going to point out that the law they broke was never intended to be enforced. Furthermore, these people have been invited to come up here by a the most powerful institution in America—it’s free market AKA private sector. Because they are invitees and because the public sector didn’t stand in the way of this more powerful force, they should be called invitees, specifically non-governmental invitees, the Acronym is NGIs. This Progressive Conservative is hereby calling for and end to the use of the word “undocumented” and an immediate Moratorium on all deportantions.
Deportation Moratorium Now!
It’s one thing secure and close the border, this movie is not about that, nor is it about what a new American Immigration Reform Law would look like. Regardless, it is not ok to uproot people and force them out of a country they’ve made a life in. This goes for all the invitees, including Haitians, Syrians, Venezuelans, Afghans, –and now there’s this big attack on asylum-seekers–everybody–they are all the NGIs at this point.
Now I’m going to go back over what I just said and explain why I think these things if anyone is interested:

Don’t help Trump by using it
The American Left generally and the media generally have long lent their STAMP OF APPROVAL to the word “undocumented.” They did this early on in the debate perhaps because it sounds so much better than the alternative they were offered which was “illegal alien.” That sounds like a space creature.
But I would argue that accepting this word was a big mistake. It ERASES the person it is labeling in the process of labeling them. An “Un-documented person” is only a simple contraction away from an “unperson” and we know you don’t have to give unpersons rights. But as a conservative I notice and object to the fact that it also erases the existence of the private sector, AKA free market.
America’s private sector doesn’t speak English but communicates through prices. With prices It sends signals around the world like this one:”If you can be at these coordinates tomorrow you can get a job, say in a meatpacking plant, that pays 20 times as much in an hour as you make in a month now. This constitutes an invitation.
The inviter, that is the private sector, is way larger than America’s public sector, it employs many more people, it is responsible for our prosperity and it pays all the bills of the public sector. As a CONSERVATIVE, I don’t like it when the market’s role in a phenomenon is written out of the story.
The public sector, meanwhile, has made the law that people point to in order to call immigrants “undocumented” or “illegal.” These words have given debators on the right side of the issue the upper hand in debate, and from what I’ve seen, they tend to wind these debates easily. They simply say: “These people broke our laws when they came here, we need to send them back.” That sounds like common sense to many listeners. On the other side of the debat a liberal might be struggling to get people who have no empathy to feel empathy. I call cases like this examples of liberals is fighting on a battlefield that has been SEMANTICALLY-PREPARED by their ENEMY.
(As an aside, Alexander the Great would have understood this. Though he was a horrible mass-murderer of a man, he thoroughly understood battlefield tactics and never attacked his enemy on a field of battle they had prepared themselves to defend, and he never lost a battle. Sometimes I feel that current-day Dems operate the opposite way: they never prepare the battlefield semantically and almost always accept the terminology cooked up by Republicans. There will be more on this in coming movie/blogs.)
But let’s look at the law they broke. The law made it illegal to come here and work, but when you analyze a law that makes something illegal you have to look at what is its ENFORCEMENT MECHANISM. The enforcement mechanism tells you everything you need to know about the law. In Washington state they just passed a law making it illegal for ICE agents to be masked during operations. But there is no enforcement mechanism, so it is has made absolutely no difference. Congess could pass a law making blue cars illegal tomorrow but if they didn’t set up an enforcement mechanism it would become a just an unfunny national joke. People would laugh at a law like that the way Seattleites currently laugh at the law that says they are not allowed to set off fireworks in the neighborhoods which is a law that I believe has never been enforced even once. If you’re in Seattle and want to get a good night’s sleep on July 4th night, wear good earplugs or you are guaranteed to be sleepless in Seattle.
The law against immigrating outside the legal framework was never intended to be rigorously ENFORCED. If it had been anyone who was thinking about hiring somebody would have been put on notice that if they wanted to stay out of jail they would have to check social security numbers against a list. Even before digital, this would have been easy. Retailers like me on the line down at the Pike Place Market were checking for bad credit card numbers by calling them in to a national database in the evening, when we would find out if we had made a sale or not. There would have been no technical difficulties in setting up such a system for Social Security numbers but nobody wanted to do it.
Every attempt to institute a call-in system and a tough-jail-the-employer enforcement standard was defeated without fanfare. Therefore we can safely say that the law against immigrating outside the formal system was for show only–so that politicians could come home to the voters in their district and strike a pose of being “tough on illegal immigration.” It was never meant to stop the migration or dislodge the hardworking people who were making themselves indispensable in a myriad of ways to the economy and the culture, and had become crucial building block of our PROSPERITY and the fiscal health of government, through their tax payments–(Check out the Cato Institute’s study on their economic contributions). I’ve heard it said that if all the so-called undocumented people were expelled from Texas, there would never be another house built in that state.
So that’s why “undocumented” is a lie: it tells the story of these people’s arrival but in telling that story it leaves out 90% of the truth and concentrates on a law that was A LIE FROM ITS INCEPTION. The people now being murdered in the streets, left to die in the new American gulags where US Congresspeople are not allowed to visit and the people being ziptied for entire flights on airplanes so if the plane crashes they will not be able to escape, families are being separated and children are being told they are not wanted here in America are not unpeople, they are Invitees.
Progressive Conservatism hereby calls for an end to the use of the propaganda-word “undocumented” and an immediate national Moratorium on Deportations.
