Seattle in Summer. 3rd Edition, June of 2024, remastered and slightly different from the 2nd edition. (The product image does show the differences, which are subtle, pretty well.). The painting shows Seattle from Queen Anne Hill with Mt. Rainier in the background, what was called Key Arena when I started painting, what was called the Washington Mutual Tower when I started the painting, and other landmarks. Violet-green Swallows are a bird that has traditionally been abundant or at least present in summer in all neighborhoods of Seattle including the downtown. Our changing Brave New World has been hard on this green, lavender and white aerialist but today, June 29, 2024, I saw one flying over the city near Phinney Ridge, and we still see them occasionally foraging over our house on Beacon Hill. In the painting two Violet-greens are foraging in the foreground.
