This is a painting from the teens or oughts that I still believe in. The Short-eared Owl is a charismatic species–an Owl that largely flies in the day and puts on a great air-show at that, with many an aerial dogfight as these birds fight with everything up there, particularly other Short-eared Owls, often Northern Harriers and also larger predator birds. It is also immensely cute when you see them in flight or perched, I am trying to convey that. This is based on the view from the Dept. of Wildlife lands where the North Fork of the Skagit River meets, is it Port Susan Bay (?) in the Mt. Vernon, Skagit delta area of Washington state.
