Image size 4.7.5 x 16.75″; trim size 6 x 18″ signed and hand-titled by Ed. Published January 3, 2022. Applicable to the whole US. Here are some scenes of Birds in Winter from around the country. Top is a Blue Jay, abundant across much of the US but rare in Washington state. A lone Blue Jay appears to be spending the winter of 21/22 in Port Townsend. Second from the top is an Anna’s Hummingbird in a Birch tree covered in snow and during a snowstorm. This is a Seattle scene and was recently repeated during a major snowstorm that hit Seattle at first on the 26th of December. Third is a Black-capped Chickadee, common across much of the country, on a Sumac. This scene is of a barn that was somewhere west of Route 100 in Berks County, Pennsylvania back in the 90s or oughts. The next scene is a pair of Canada Jays, formerly known as Gray Jays and also known as Camprobbers, in a scene based on one from Mt. Rainier National Park, a photo I took somewhere in the Park in the 80s. The anchor image is a Northern Cardinal, the symbol of winter on many a Christmas Card and tapestry, but alas not a Washington bird at all, sitting on a Virginia Creeper vine based on a scene from the house I spent much of my childhood in in Montgomery County, PA.
