This is a new 9 x 12, first time publication of a painting from 2013. A ferry is parked at the Keystone Dock on Whidbey Island waiting to make another run to Port Townsend. The two birds are Pigeon Guillemots, which on one of our trips there were very abundant, all paired up. Guillemots are related to Puffins in the Alcid family and these contain species that tend to have extraordinarily strong pair bonding. Most of the birds were sitting within a few inches of their partners and were mooning and occasionally necking, as we used to say back in the 60s in Pennsylvania.
