This is a painting of a Bull Elk at Mount Rainier in the vicinity of Paradise. The original photo I worked from was taken by the longtime North Arcade Wildlife Photographer Mary Welt, a nice 4 x 6 photo from the days way before digital photography. It was quite a beautiful little shot, (no Elk of course) but is now long lost, sadly, and I am astonished now by the fact that there was so much snow up on the mountain at the time the foliage was going nuts being red and colorful in the Fall. The actual painting is long since sold also but I have made slight changes to the file since for a total elapsed time that I have been working on this painting of 24 years. I now consider this one of my star files and soon I will cease all work on it, even at points of re-publication. I want this eventually to stand out as one of my best paintings, as long as a person can live with the fact that this is an idyllic scene from days gone by, when the snow on the mountain lasted all summer.
