83 Rufous Hummingbird
The Rufous Hummingbird is the traditional Hummer of the Pacific Northwest, SW Canada and SE Alaska. It’s very aggressive and makes a wonderful buzzing noise, I think with its wings, so you can always tell if they are around. Rufous come up in late March and early April, timing their migration with the blooming of the Salmonberry and a few other native flowers. Females are strikingly beautiful in a different way; this is a breeding plumage male.
