The View from Queen Anne
At 605 ft. high, the mighty Space Needle is only 1/3 taller than the biggest of the Douglas Firs that originally covered this region, many of which reached 400 ft. (None of the really big trees were spared). In the distance is the mountain the Puyallups called “Tahoma,” AKA Mt. Rainier. At 14,506 ft it is only the 5th highest peak in the continental US but is the most ‘topographically prominent.’ In this painting of the view from Queen Anne Hill, a squadron of Canada Geese have left the waterfront and are headed overland to Lake Union.
Ed Newbold is a Seattle wildlife artist who paints in acrylics. His store at the Pike Place Market, going since 1983, is now located in the Entrance, the first business on your right as you walk into the Market from the SW corner of 1st & Pike.
