A White-crowned Sparrow at Point Wilson, next door to Port Townsend and Ft. Worden State Park. This is the original painting for a notecard and a vertical and a horizontal 12 x 16 print and a print that is sold in an 8 x 0 mat.
The White-crowned Sparrow is one of the hardiest birds in terms of surviving in cities. Since it’s natural home is open rock and scree slopes in the high mountains surrounded by the high forest that is thinning toward the timberline, it apparently can see pavement as a substitute for rock outcroppings and shrub landscaping as a subsititute for an Engelmann’s Spruce. It has a wonderful song that can be heard in the summer throughout the Northwest.
