Back in the 90s, Graham and Caroline Ashford used to own the Heaton House Gallery in Edmonds, where they used to sell my originals. Graham insisted that I paint a scene of Edmonds, which I finished and published in 1995. It turned out to have been a really good idea! The title Evening Commute is meant to refer both to the passengers on the Ferry, some of whom might be commuting, and possibly the Great Blue Heron, which could either be commuting home to a roost from a day-foraging area or relocating to a regular night-foraging area as some Herons now take advantage of artificial light to hunt. (And some Fisheries Biologists have pointed to increased night-hunting abilities of these Birds as possibly contributing to increased mortality in struggling Fish species.) (Nothing is simple anymore.)
