We have an Anna’s Hummingbird nesting in our Italian Plum outside our bedroom window.  She’s about 3 feet across the tree from where she successfully nested last year.  This year it’s a string of indignities.  Here she sees a cat walking under the tree.  You can...

I arrived in Seattle in 1976 and late that winter in ‘77 I saw a juvenile Golden Eagle with a clear white subterminal band on the tail perched on driftwood in the Skagit Wildlife Recreation area marsh near Conway, WA.  Today Delia and I went...

Lake Sammamish State Park: pretty in the unseasonable cold --Nov. 20 2010 Delia & I went over to Lake Samammish State Park today for a quick 14,000 steps in the cold weather today (Delia has taken to wearing a pedometer everywhere lately.)
(Nov. 22, 2010 Seattle got slammed today) Our Anna's Hummingbird spent the day guarding the feeder in the backyard. The yellow behind him is a birch tree whose leaves have turned.

Nov. 13, 2010 This male Anna's Hummingbird was preening in the backyard for a while while another was foraging. They sure seem to be spending alot more time at the feeder now that nature is winding down for winter....
